Aaryan's Students of the Year Fundraiser
Hi! Thank you for taking the time to visit the fundraising page of my team, Clobbering Cancer. It means a lot!
Every three minutes, someone, likely a child, receives the terrible, heart wrenching news that they have blood cancer. Think about what that statistic means. Think about the probability of getting blood cancer. I do not accept that horrifying statistic which is why I am fundraising for LLS in order to fight blood cancer. I hope you will help me to reach our team's goal of $100,000!
My name is Aaryan Chopra, and I am a student visionary for the 2023 Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS) Student of the Year Campaign. Students of the Year is a philanthropic program for high school students, wanting to make a difference. In other words, it’s a way for students like me to play a part in the long journey of finding a cure. A path for us to express the hatred that we all share for cancer.
My goal in this 2023 Student Visionaries of the Year campaign is to raise a total of $100,000 through donations, corporate sponsorships, and other events.
In 2022, the grand total across all Students of the Year teams was $1,168,041! That is a huge sum of money, all of which going to funding blood cancer research and supporting families struggling with cancer. This number was only possible with the fundraising of all teams and each of their altruistic donors.
My Why: Lymphoma
This is my grandmother: Sudesh Dhir or to me, Gamma.
Gamma is an outstanding human being. Despite living in India, she always finds a way to visit and make me feel special. Plus, along with being an amazing baker, she also magically made all my elementary math troubles disappear. Even today, whenever I am moving to a new state, starting at a new school, or about to participate in a competition, she always says the perfect words to calm my nerves - I know that I can always rely on her.
I saw her as invincible, so when she was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2014, I was shocked and heartbroken. That time between her diagnosis and recovery was terrifying. The future seemed dark and unknown. However, my grandma is a strong, strong woman (probably because she taught elementary school for 20 years!).
Gamma fought hard and survived lymphoma and is now again the healthy and energetic grandma I know and love. She turned 70 earlier this year on January 7.
The mission of LLS is to cure blood cancer. We are sick of watching innocent children suffer from this awful disease, and we are working to make a difference. In 10 years, we do not want to see cancer plaguing the world, so organizations like LLS have set their goals and are poised to follow through on them.
As a student visionary, I am fundraising to help LLS achieve this laudable goal.
LLS has already helped advance over 85% of FDA-approved blood cancer treatments since 2017. They are also investing in groundbreaking scientific research in 11 countries around the globe. Funding blood cancer research leads to treatment advances in other cancers as well: LLS helps all cancer patients everywhere.
This is the successful and cosmopolitan organization you would be donating to.
As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS funds pioneering, cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients. They also provide free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more. Finally, they are mobilizing thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
However, despite the amazing, life-saving progress of LLS and the medical industry, there’s much more that needs to be done. Just look at the numbers. Leukemia is the #1 most diagnosed form of childhood cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths among children. 33% of blood cancer patients do not survive even 5 years after their diagnosis. These numbers are heartbreaking and need to be changed.
That's why we are fighting to rid OUR future of this monstrosity: please join me in doing so.
Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible.
Support the cancer survivors.
Support the families of those who have been taken by cancer.
Support the future individuals who may not have to suffer like many do today.
Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!
THANK YOU!! I really appreciate your consideration!
